Marcus Yankus, The Space Between
While it takes an extraordinary amount of skill to make a painting so realistic that it looks like a photograph, we'd argue that it's just as impressive to create a photograph so
surreal it appears to be a painting. And that's just what Marcus Yankus manages to do in his latest series of images taken around Manhattan. Capturing the city's historic landscape in an explorative collection of over 20 photographs, Yankus juxtaposes the sturdy, linear detail of architecture against a softened, dreamy atmosphere that blasts the viewer back to the past.
