Exhibition: Impressionism, Fashion, and Modernity
This week, the Met opened its highly anticipated exhibition, “Impressionism, Fashion, and Modernity,” which pairs 79 Impressionist works by Manet, Monet, Renoir, et al. with 14 period costumes that influenced and/or appear in these canvasses.
The juxtaposition draws attention to the age-old relationship between art and la mode, while also providing historical context and a more immersive environment for understanding these celebrated works, including Monet's large-scale Luncheon on the Grass (1865–66), Bazille's Family Reunion (1867), and many more.
Date: February 26 – May 27
Location: The Met, 100 Fifth Avenue
