Wynn Newhouse Award Winning Artists

Works by Eight Award Winning Artists with Disabilities
Something to add to your gallery agenda now is the Palitz Gallery's new exhibition opening April 15th, featuring the works of eight Wynn Newhouse award winning artists. Each year the Wynn Newhouse awards are presented to artists who have risen to the top ranks within their mediums, despite having disabilities as recognized by the Americans with Disabilities Act. More than 35 artists were nominated to receive this prestigious award, but ultimately only eight winners were chosen to receive this honor and monetary prize. Among the artists that were chosen this year, is Brooklyn based artist Robin Antar who is blind in one eye. Her ability to capture the essence  of still life objects which she sculpts out of stone is uncanny and all the more remarkable given her struggles with depth perception due to her disability. Among the works featured at the Palitz Gallery this year is her sculpture depicting two bottles of liquor and a glass (honeycomb calcite, green marble, and bronze) entitled Morning After. Other artists' works on view at the exhibition include mediums such as video art, collage, charcoal and pastel on paper. Dates: April 15 - June 13 Where: Palitz Gallery at the Lubin House, 11 East 61st Street [Morning After, via]
