The Pop Object: The Still Life Tradition in Pop Art
On view beginning April 10th, and curated by renowned art historian John Wilmerding, the Pop Art Survey will include over 75 important works from U.S. pop artists. Some artists featured include Roy Lichtenstein, Andy Warhol, and Jasper Johns alongside their contemporaries including Jeff Koons and Alex Katz.
The exhibition attempts to understand the relationship between the pop art movement in the United States and the subject of the still life object within that context. Although still life is often considered nothing more than an exercise for the budding artist, the re-imagining of a still life object has led to some of the "most witty and innovative expressions." Here, the exhibition is divided into four categories: food and drink, the garden, body parts, and clothing and housewares. With prominent paintings and sculptures on loan from the National Gallery of Art in D.C., the Andy Warhol Museum in Pittsburgh, The Museum of Contemporary Art in Los Angeles, and the Museum of Modern Art in New York- this collection is not to be missed.
Dates: April 10 - May 24
Where: Acquavella Galleries 18 East 79th Street
