Walter Robinson Indulgences
Currently on view at the Dorian Grey Gallery is Walter Robinson’s
Indulgences, a solo exhibition of new paintings and works on paper that explores the concept of indulgence. Robinson sets out to understand
what defines indulgence? In our modern consumerist culture, as well as explore the boundaries of the religious practice by which sins are forgiven in the church. Robinson’s depiction of female and male pin-ups, mouthwatering images of fast food and pharmaceuticals are all meant to engage the viewer in much the same way advertisements are meant to engage the consumer.
Robinson has had a long career as both art critic and writer. He co-founded “Art-Rite” magazine in the 1970s, was the former news editor of “Art in America Magazine” in the 1980s and early 1990s, and is a founding member of “Artnet Magazine" from 1996 to 2012. With his analytical eye and tremendous body of work, Robinson’s latest exhibition will not disappoint. If anything, be prepared to succumb to your most primal desires: a hankering for a large burger and French fries post-show.
