“You have to pick the places you don't walk away from.”
Joan Didion may have moved a number of times throughout her life - setting up homes all over California and eventually settling in an apartment on the Upper East Side - but the carefully curated collection of objects she picked up along the way followed her every step.
On November 16th, an assortment of the author's most treasured pieces - from her favorite books and iconic Celine sunglasses to various artworks by friends and even her gilt-leather top partner's desk - will be offered up in an auction at Stair Galleries.
Certainly, snagging any one of the literary legend's items would be a win, but still, we've got our eye on a few pieces in particular!
Proceeds from the sale will benefit patient care and research of Parkinson’s and other movement disorders at Columbia University, and the Sacramento Historical Society for the benefit of Sacramento City College scholarship for women in literature.
