Brooklyn Now Has Its First All Vegetarian Public School

Brooklyn parents, rejoice. You can now send your young tot to an elementary school that serves an entirely plant-based menu.

Lentil sloppy Joes, pasta fagioli, Mexicali chili, braised black beans with plantains, and teriyaki crunchy tofu will now be lunch options for the 1,250 pre-K through 5th graders at PS 1. We know you were stressing, in between meals at by CHLOE. and Beyond Sushi, about your child's education and future red blood cell count.

Inspired by PS 244 in Queens, PS 1 in Sunset Park made the switch after students pressured the administration for more broccoli. Maybe they just watched Okja on Netflix and are feeling guilty? Whatever the case, parents, you're doing a great job.

With a tag line that reads, "Where little feet take BIG steps towards the future," the public school certainly seems to be taking big steps in the right direction. Get your enrollment application in before the Whole Foods crowd takes over.
