Vending machines have long been associated with people's lowest moments: a sad candy bar for lunch, a post-coital snack at a seedy motel, a failed attempt to oust bodegas. But recently they've received the high-end treatment, with upgraded versions automatically dispensing everything from champagne to oysters. Classy.
But somewhere in between the two extremes is this one, located, of course, in Brooklyn. A few days ago, artist Signe Pierce tweeted a now-viral photo with the caption "The vending machine @ my laundromat is a sinner’s prayer." Truly giving new meaning to the term "top shelf," it depicted a row of readily available beef jerky, Plan B emergency contraception, an audio Bible, and, gloriously, some sexy lubricant. A sinner's prayer indeed.
So where exactly can one find this particularly amusing one-stop shop? Turns out it's the work of one of our favorite NYC speakeasies, which really does double as a washing machine haven.
Sunshine Laundromat in Greenpoint is the best mullet of a haunt we know. Business in the front, party in the back, embodied. While locals wait for their laundry to dry, they slip behind a secret washing machine door to a chill bar and pinball arcade - which is where they're getting drunk enough to make the bad (or good, if you think about it) decisions requiring the vending machine's services.
According to Instagram, the stock has also included everything from dog treats to at-home DNA kits. Luckily for everyone, though, the Plan B remains a consistent staple.
