Although women had been frequent customers of Brooks Brothers stores throughout its history, including Katharine Hepburn who would frequently buy and wear Brooks Brothers slacks, Brooks Brothers first introduced a shirt tailored for women in 1949. They would not launch a full-scale womenswear department until 1976.
