WTF Happened?!
In an advisory posted on the Daily Harvest website on Sunday, the company said that it has "launched an investigation with internal and external experts throughout our supply chain and in accordance with regulatory procedures," and would share more information as it becomes available.
While the actual cause of the illness remains unclear, lentils do contain lectin, a protein that causes digestive issues when eaten raw or undercooked. A lawyer representing some of the consumers who have been affected also told Eater that the product should "be tested to determine what pathogen, if any, is present in Lentil Crumbles that could be responsible for the outbreak of illness."
Whatever the culprit turns out to be, the influencer-favorite company clearly has a lot of damage control ahead of it... and well-staged Instagram pics won't help.
