What does your average food day look like?

I lead two totally different lives based on if I’m in NYC/LA for work, or down in Florida where my family lives these days. I like to say I’m 100% on when I’m traveling so I can be 100% mom when I’m home, and it’s really let me put some sanity back into my life and remove a lot of the mom guilt so many of us face.

At home, I’m up early with the kids. We typically make smoothies or high-fiber pancakes with this whole grain mix from Arrowhead Mills that I doctor up with ground flax seeds, extra eggs, some yogurt, etc. After they get to school, I try to make it for a workout. I’m about half way into my fourth pregnancy now, so I keep it pretty low impact but try to get an hour walk, elliptical, or barre/pilates class or a quick half hour with obefitness.com at home. I’m working on my next book, I answer emails, take calls, organize my life, get to the grocery store…basically, I get my work done in some combination of the above. Pick the kids up and head to some sports activity – it’s so nice getting to spend so much time outside in the nice weather. We try to eat dinner around 5:30 or 6 and finish the night with some time at the beach before coming home for bath time, books, and bedtime. Then I’ll answer a few more emails usually but I try to kill all technology half an hour before I head to sleep so my mind isn’t racing.

When I’m traveling for work, my days look totally different and I’m usually up early and out a lot later at night. I spend most days on set at The Dish on Oz or other tv shows, in meetings, or recording episodes of our podcast Mom Brain. I love eating out a ton when I’m traveling and am always game to try something new – it inspires what I cook when I get home!
