DIY-ing The Conversion Is A Challenge
Sure, everything looks easy after watching one YouTube tutorial, but the reality of converting a van, especially if you try doing it yourself, is a challenge. From insulation to electricity, even the basic necessities of the process are disastrously difficult.
"It was extremely challenging for me to build a drawer — just one single drawer," Indie Akerblom, who runs the account @onthefreeside with her husband Joel, told Insider. "I just could not get it right."
"There was so much to learn," Indie said. "We started with the electric wires and I remember sitting down with all the cords and appliances and went, 'How the f--- is all of this going to work out? How will it all tie together into giving us lights?'"
"It was a disaster," she added.
