What is a “finfluencer”?
The whole influencer enterprise depends on the belief that beautiful, stylish people on the internet have coveted knowledge about how to live life. I mean, it’s reasonable to believe that stylish people know about style. But a smiley person on the internet should not be your positivity guru, or your dietitian (or your dental insurance purveyor, for that matter). I, on the other hand, have true expert knowledge - how to do laundry, how to drunk eat vegetables, etc - and I am sharing that knowledge. Since influencers are fake experts and I only share real expertise, I am a finfluencer, a fake influencer. It’s a double-negative.
