Brooklyn Academy of Music (BAM) Rose Cinemas
BAM has incredible civically minded screenings. From August 17-30, they are running a series called "Say It Loud: Cinema in the Age of Black Power 1966-1981." Films to be screened include The Story of a Three Day Pass, Putney Swope, and The Murder of Fred Hampton. A recurring series called 'Beyond the Canon' couples one quality movie that has largely flown under the radar with a counterpart that's considered part of the traditional canon (white, male). BAM's curated selection of movies guarantees you'll see something worthwhile no matter what. Plus, the place is gorgeous - you can't go wrong.
