Brooklynites in need of an impressive date night spot now have a new go-to.
Bar Americano - not to be confused with sceney West Village restaurant American Bar - has officially opened its doors in Greenpoint with European-inspired offerings nodding to the aperitivo bars of Spain and Northern Italy.
Inside the historic corner space on Franklin Street you'll find a warm wooden bar topped with Brazilian quartz, custom banquettes wrapped in leather, and glossy brass accents with retro charm.
The drinks program, led by industry vets and co-owners Steve Kämmerer and Conor Hynes (alongside David Clarke of Jungle Bird, Cooper's Craft & Cocktails), spotlights aromatized and fortified wines like Vermouths, Chinatos, Gentianes, and Jerez with two versions of its namesake Americano cocktail on tap, a selection of classics like martinis and negronis, and a dedicated spritz menu. There's also low intervention, natural wines from Europe and beer from local breweries available.
And, staying true to aperitivo culture, there's of course a grazing menu of small and shareable plates curated by Mallorca-born chef Vicent Iborra, including fried Marcona almonds, Beau Soleil oysters, cheese, charcuterie, and heartier options like a buttermilk fried chicken sandwich and dry aged burger (you know, for when the date is going particularly well and it's time to stretch it out).
Since it's already creating quite a buzz in the neighborhood, we'd recommend snagging a Resy before sidling up with your boo. Raise a glass - and a few oysters while you're at it - to a stylish night out.
