A new watering hole from a celebrated team of bar pros hopes to serve as a laid-back alternative to fussy cocktail destinations in the Lower East Side.
Taking over the former Nitecap location on Rivington, Lullaby embraces the vibes of a chill neighborhood spot in a moody subterranean space that's nevertheless a step above your typical dive bar. Considering the fact that Boston bartending legend Brother Cleve is one of the names behind it, the cocktail offerings are, too, a step above.
Lullaby is the first New York City venture from the bar owner, who partnered with enterprising duo Harrison Snow and Jake Hodas on the establishment. Their goal? To demystify the cocktail-making (and drinking) experience.
"With Lullaby, we wanted to bring a high caliber experience to anyone who might otherwise feel unwelcome or like they don’t fit in at most modern cocktail bars. Some people don’t find the idea of sitting in a dark room and watching a 'mixologist' in a fancy apron stroke his mustache and his ego simultaneously appealing. Everyone deserves a place to have an amazing drink,” says co-owner Snow.
Indeed, the drink menu is as straightforward as they come, forgoing flowery cocktail names in favor of sips like The Whiskey Drink, The Vodka Drink, and The Rum Drink. There are, of course, classic martinis, as well as an upscale selection of niche spirits that award-winning bartender Brian Miller (Death & Co., Pegu Club, The Polynesian) will be happy to get creative with. As for its more divey elements? Beer and shot specials, along with a cheeky Dole Whip, a boozy pineapple soft serve that comes in a classic "We Are Happy to Serve You" cup.
Whether you're looking to impress on a second date, have a relaxed catch-up with friends, or grab a nightcap before heading home, Lullaby seems to be the perfect go-to for any out-and-about occasion.
