Saturday: Doris

Then because our new best friend, DJ Sexy Precious, said it was cool and that they played only vinyl, we followed her to Doris where we bumped into our homie, Duane Lauginiger playing a mix of garage, psych, soul and rocksteady/reggae 45s. We asked him about drinking while DJing (something we swear by) and were surprised to hear that he doesn’t drink. “Not to discourage others. Get weird. Stay weird. I'm there with you.” We chatted about record collecting, too. Turns out his holy grail record, Lee Moses’ Bad Girl, was recently featured on an episode of GIRLS, so yeah good luck finding that already super-rare record now that every beardo wants it too. When it comes to what makes a party we agree: “A great party is any night I get to play records that people are dancing to. Especially when there isn’t a proper dancefloor. Spontaneous hangs are the best hangs.” Speaking of spontaneity, our friend was like "Doris is cool but there’s another place around the corner you gotta see." Again we’re not going to say where because if we did then it’ll be just like that Lee Moses 45, even harder to find in good condition. We took a shot of the door so that should be enough to go on, and once we were inside we didn't even want to ruin the fun by taking pictures. Also because one of our new friends that night was super camera shy. Our theory about that is that she has body dysmorphic disorder, but a new kind where she thinks she’s a car. In fact in the cab ride she kept saying something like, “What am I doing? How am I in a car? I AM a car!
