The Boiler Room

The Boiler Room
Gays, straights, artists, hipsters, *FrOGs, and princesses alike can be seen shooting pool and canoodling in The Boiler Room, an East Village bar where happy hour seemingly never ends. It's 2-for-1 beers until 8 p.m., then $3.75 for any house liquor from 10 p.m. until close, making this an economically great place to begin, or end, a night out downtown. The music for the evening is determined by a massive jukebox by the entrance, and swings to the taste of the crowd, which skews away from the pop/house favored by more mainstream venues toward the alternative (rumor has it the owner once removed tracks by Lady Gaga because of overplay).  Particularly on weekends, the space tends to get packed, making it easy to strike up conversation with fellow revelers.
