Green Mill Cocktail Lounge - Chicago
Just as McSorley Old Ale House harkens back to New York at the turn of the century, so too does the Green Mill Cocktail Lounge in Chicago. Since its start in 1907, this Uptown Chicago bar has attracted a plethora of notable Jazz performers (although the lounge's most notable client is Al Capone). During the Prohibition, a member of Capone's Chicago outfit was a part owner in this lounge making it THE hangout for Chicago's most dangerous gangsters.
Capone's favorite booth (which still exists today) was directly west of the short end of the bar, giving him a full view of the door. After the Prohibition, Green Mill Cocktail Lounge became a highly regarded for its nightly Jazz performances that still continue today.
