No, Pianos Isn't Closing Forever, But It Does Need Your Help!

by Stephanie Maida · May 7, 2020

On Thursday, Lower East Side staple Pianos shared an Instagram post saying that they were closing "indefinitely" due to the impact of the coronavirus. Many interpreted this as a permanent shutdown, taking to their IG stories to mourn the loss of the divey dance spot after 18 years. After all, a few of our favorite watering holes have met the same fate since the crisis forced venues to close their doors.

But, thankfully, Pianos is not shuttering for good!

In a follow-up post, the team clarified that they will be reopening when it's safe to do so, but are asking for donations through a GoFundMe to support their staff, including bartenders, barbacks, managers, DJs, sound engineers, security, kitchen staff, and maintenance workers.

Phew! Nevertheless, if you've ever enjoyed a truly raucous night or live show at the Ludlow Street icon, consider donating HERE

To all of our patrons, friends and family who have passed through our doors over the last 18 years on Ludlow Street, We wish to thank you and express our sincere gratitude for helping us build a community like no other. In 2002, we set out to provide a venue for dancing and live music on the Lower East Side, and in the process we have become a place known for diversity in times of adversity, and in this we take great pride. Now we find ourselves in an unimaginable position and have closed indefinitely (UNTIL WE CAN SAFELY REOPEN) due to the COVID-19 pandemic. We feel that we have meant a lot of things to a lot of people. If we have meant anything to you, please consider helping now in this difficult time. Pianos serves as the livelihood for an incredible team of employees, including bartenders, barbacks, managers, DJs, sound engineers, talent agents, security, door persons, waitstaff, kitchen staff, coat check, maintenance and accounting. This is a call for support. All funds raised at the link in our bio will go directly to our staff to help supplement lost income. For your contribution, we will be forever grateful. If you are not able to give, we still thank you and appreciate your business over the years. Please know that Pianos is committed to the future… and dancing with our friends through any and every obstacle that we face. With respect and gratitude, Pianos
