Palladium

Formerly a fancy movie theater, this spot converted into its most famed state, a rock venue, in the '60s and finally gained its most famed name, Palladium, in 1976 when The Band performed a live radio broadcast there. Oh, and Blondie had their debut there. In 1985, it underwent yet another shift when Studio 54 owners took over and commissioned a revamping of the interior by Japanese architect Arata Isozaki. Palladium remained a nightclub until its closing and demolition in 2007. Its legacy lives on in a NYU dorm building of the same name; I wonder how Debbie Harry feels about this.
