NYC Nightlife: Everything You Need To Know Thursday

by Mara Siegler · June 2, 2011

A new beach-themed club is set to open in Chelsea; a rock-n-roll dive bar is headed to the Meatpacking District; the cops have shut down Madame Wong's; reviews of Beer Parc; a DJ summer series; some disappointing news about the Polo Classic and more. Today's nightlife roundup is minus one ginger royal.

    1. The Newest 'Uber-Tough' Door In Town: PH-D At The Dream Downtown [GofG]

PH-D isn't in reference to a  Doctor of Philosophy in this case, but instead stands for Penthouse at Dream, the new uber-exclusive event space at you guessed it, Vikram Chatwal's new Dream Downtown hotel. We take a look at what promises to make this new venue VIP-worthy.

    2. Gunbar Opening Soon [Image via]

Villa Pacri and Bagatelle's Aaron Elbaz and Bobby Persson of Southside are bringing dive bar to the Meatpacking District. Their new spot Gunbar is described as "Lower East Side meets Eastern London" and promises rock-n-roll. There will also be an on-site tattoo parlor where guests will be able to make permanent mistakes without having to ever leave the bar.

    3. Madame Wong's Shut Down By Cops [Eater]

We called this last month!  Simonez Wolf's Madame Wong's parties at Chinese restaurant Jobee were shut down by the police this weekend and will likely not open again. Their liquor license was not renewed by the Community Board and has expired.

Never fear underground party goers, Simonez said he is working on something new!

Al Rineh, owner of  L'Ybane, has opened La Carafe Restaurant and Wine Bar at 653 Ninth Avenue. The wine list has a roster of over 100 choices and offers up food like spiced chickpea fritters, grilled merguez, and eggplant caviar, as well as pasta, seafood, and mains like cassolette de moules.

A List Of Outdoor Drinking Spots From Writers and Editors [NYDN]

This is pretty much the writer Patrick Huguenin calling his friends and asking them where they like to hang out in the summer, but the friends he called made some good choices.

Mixed reviews for Eventi's Beer Parc [Eater]

Beer Parc opened last week at Eventi hotel and reviews are mixed. Apparently the atmosphere is great but the food can be hit or miss.

Prince Harry Will Not Be At Veuve Cliquot Polo This Weekend [VV] [Image via]

The best part of polo on Governors Island for the past two years has been one hot ginger royal. But OMG, this was just released! He's not going to be there:

For the past two years, Veuve Clicquot has been proud to support Prince Harry's charity Sentebale and have him play in the Veuve Clicquot Polo Classic. This year, the Veuve Clicquot Polo Classic will benefit Hope Help & Rebuild Haiti (HHRH), an initiative of Urban Zen and the next evolution of Hope Help & Relief Haiti. Veuve Clicquot is inspired and moved by HHRH's mission and the many organizations it supports in Haiti.
