Raines Law Room
Located in a subterranean room on West 17th Street lies Raines Law Room. The only indication that there's a bar below the black awning-- marked only with the street address-- is a small doorbell.
Ring the bell and you'll be whisked downstairs to Raines Law Room. Named for an 1896 law intended to curb alcohol consumption, Raines Law Room is complete with prohibition era decor (velvet couches, wall buzzers to call your waitress), but a well-stocked bar and creative cocktail menu make sure that the bar's namesake law is a thing of the past.
