Sheltering Sky
Overview: Sheltering Sky is the new lounge at the top of the McCarren Park Hotel in Williamsburg. Throughout the year the hotel, formerly known as King & Grove, went through a rebranding and none other than famous impresario Nur Khan was enlisted to become a partner in the hotel, consulting on the rooms, the saltwater pool, and especially the rooftop. Khan used the same magic touch on the roof that has made Electric Room and Tao Downtown staples in the NYC scene. While Sheltering Sky was the place to be this summer, a retractable roof will cover the space to make it fall/winter friendly, and top DJs like Elle Dee, Spiky Phil, and Vikas will keep the vibe going all year.
Location: Sheltering Sky, 160 N 12th St (Williamsburg)
Team: Ed Scheetz, Nur Khan
Insider's Scorecard: Nur has always had a way of bringing a cool crowd to his venues. On the opening night, Nancy Whang of LCD Soundsystem DJ'd, SKATERS performed, and Jude Law partied away at the Moroccan-themed lounge. In addition to Nur's rockstar and model friends who frequent the place, Sheltering Sky has become one of the few places in Williamsburg that can still draw a Manhattan crowd.
