Proof That Anna Delvey Was Never A Real NYC Socialite

Since her viral reveal as a con artist with a crazy accent back in 2017, Anna Delvey has time and time again been labeled a "New York socialite" by the press. And well, we're just not having it any more.

Oh, if only it were as easy as sporting designer clothes to events and enjoying expensive lunches and weaseling your way into conversations with wealthy influential people, how many card carrying socialites this city would have!

So, in a world where there's clearly more subtleties to a title most seem plenty happy to just give out, what's the real currency New York socialites live and die by?

Well, it's not Instagram followers, and it's not even party invites per se, it's BFA photos.

If you're a staple on the scene, the moment you enter a party (worth going to, that is) a BFA event photographer will recognize you and ask to take a few shots, whether on the step-and-repeat or posted up somewhere particularly picturesque sans passersby in the background. Later on they'll be sure to touch back for a group shot or sneak up on you for some candids. It's their job, after all, to shoot the important people. The ones PR assistants will plug into press releases and magazines will mention in their articles.

One's BFA presence is without a doubt the largest signifier of social standing. And let's just say that "Anna Delvey (aka Anna Sorokin aka Anna Sorokina)" is not flush with photos...

Twenty two photos may seem like a lot to an off-the-street plebeian, but in reality, it's barely enough to prove you exist in the world of high society. Downtown or uptown!

So if she wasn't a socialite, but she did live a slightly more elevated existence than an average subway rider, surely there must be a moniker fitting of this aspirational limbo state?

    Social-light, perhaps?
