10. The Cox Family
In 1898 James Middleton Cox acquired his first daily newspaper and began to build a print media empire. After a failed presidential campaign in 1920, Cox focused on expanding, laying the groundwork for a massive print, television, and radio conglomerate that is still family-run today. The $34.5 billion fortune is divided between primary owner Anne Cox Chambers, as well as James Kennedy and Blair Parry-Okeden, Anne's niece and nephew.
