Salmagundi Club

Salmagundi Club
The word “salmagundi” is derived from the French “salmagundis,” which means a hodgepodge, or a mix of assorted elements. How appropriate to describe this social club hosting New York artists and their patrons since 1871, where it began as a sketch class in sculptor Jonathan Scott Hartley’s Broadway studio. Yes, there’s the requisite chandeliers, the Victorian parlor, the European Club dining room. But Belle from Beauty and the Beast would twirl with glee in Salmagundi Club’s impressive library teeming with rare books, and its capacious gallery spaces were constructed especially for its artist members, who have the opportunity to exhibit their works 6-10 times a year. Acclaimed artists like N.C. Wyeth and Barbara Stadtlander got a boost here, so why shouldn't you? Salmagundi Club, 47 Fifth Avenue, $225/yearly for Young Patron/Artist.
