The Murder Of Olympic Skier Spider Sabich

The year was 1976. Spider Sabich was one of the most famous U.S. skiers in the world. After a day on the slopes, he stripped down to take a shower and - boom - his girlfriend, French singer and starlet Claudine Longet, shot him in the stomach with an imitation WWII model pistol. 'Twas the shot that shook the ski world and beyond. Claudine claimed it was an accident and, though she was found with cocaine in her system, shockingly got off with a $250 fine and a sentence of 30 days in county jail, to be served at a time of her choosing. She apparently took years to finish it out, serving the time on random weekends.

It became a major pop culture story at the time - SNL did their skits (Chevy Chase starred in one called the "Claudine Longet Inivitational Ski Shoot") and The Rolling Stones even wrote a song about her.
