Patty Hearst

Patty Hearst, granddaughter of publishing magnate, William Randolph Hearst, didn't ask for her moment in the spotlight. While attending college in Berkeley in 1974, she was kidnapped by a group called the Symbionese Liberation Army, who reportedly tortured and brainwashed her until she publicly supported their cause. After a year of participating in bank robberies and other crimes alongside the SLA, she was arrested, though her sentence was commuted by President Jimmy Carter and she was later pardoned by President Bill Clinton.
