She Funded It After A Violent Incident With The NYPD
A native New Yorker, and gal-about-downtown, Leah actually got the money to start her brand after suing the NYPD and receiving a $75,000 settlement. In 2002, she claims, "The cops were beating up a friend of mine outside the Hammerstein Ballroom at around 4am. I had a bottle in my hand and, though I shouldn't have, I threw it. That's when the cop punched me." She was thrown face-down into a subway grate on the sidewalk and lost two of her teeth. Talk about making lemonade out of lemons.
