History: The H&M owned minimalist brand COS opened its doors for the first time on the East Coast in Soho in 2014. Its chic and classy interior is expected, but what about the 200-year old haunted well inside?
Haunted Happenings: COS, which is situated at the former site of the Manhattan Bistro is also the site of the "Manhattan Murder Well."
The story goes that a young woman named Gulielma Elmore Sands left her Greenwich Street boarding home to meet a man named Levi Weeks who was also a boarder. The two had a secret romance and decided to elope, but 11 days later her body was found in a well in Lispenard's Meadow.
Today, we know it as Spring Street.
The remains of the well can be found - interestingly enough - inside of the COS store. There are often strange happenings including bottles unexplainably being shot off the shelves at the former restaurant and it is believed that Sand's ghost continues to roam the property. Hey, at least she still has her sense of fashion.
