New York City has seen its fair share of trendy neighborhoods rise and fall (along with the rent prices) throughout the years. Debates always ensue over borders, acronyms, and the influx of new residents. It's not quite a new phenomenon. But in recent history, there perhaps hasn't been a more polarizing niche than the area known as "Dimes Square."
Bordering the Lower East Side and Chinatown, the micro-neighborhood was ushered in by artsy downtown scenesters with podcasts and trust funds and, on occasion, modeling contracts. Its namesake? A veggie-forward health food restaurant, of course. And while the 'hood (and its moniker) was once relegated to a certain brand of hipsters in the know, like all "cool" New York enclaves, it's quickly become a destination for everyone who cares to see and be seen, especially at all the newer, pricier hot spots popping up in the vicinity.
