The Unlikeliest Place For A Bernie Sanders Event In New York...

by Stephanie Maida · February 26, 2020

If you set out in search of some #BernieBros (they are, after all, hot, kinda scruffy, and support free healthcare for all), where would you look? A party at the Verso loft in DUMBO, perhaps? Some dive bars in Bushwick?

We know we certainly wouldn't head to the Upper East Side, let alone its crown jewel of prepster watering holes, Dorrian's - a place where you'd usually find Ivy League old boy types who seem like extras in a Whit Stillman movie talking about, we don't know, rowing. So color us impressed to learn that the boozy home of countless boarding school reunions was indeed the host of a recent Bernie Sanders event, according to Town & Country.

Held the night of the New Hampshire primary (of which Sanders was the victor), the gathering was apparently organized by Upper East Side for Bernie, a seemingly diverse grassroots group campaigning for the democratic candidate, which frequently holds everything from phone-banking to postcard-making events at traditionally preppy bars across the neighborhood.

Whether or not they're successfully fanning the revolution from the inside, it just goes to show you can't judge a bro by his blazer (or his favorite bar).
