Tea & Sympathy
Located in Greenwich Village, Tea & Sympathy, which opened in 1990, is one the veteran British restaurants in New York City. The owner, Nicky Perry, recounts when she first had the idea for Tea & Sympathy,
"Everyone kept saying to me, ‘Are you mad? English food is terrible!'"
If you're not in the mood for a sit-down meal, pop next door to A Salt & Battery, Tea & Sympathy's sister fish and chip shop. The small eatery streams UK radio and serves up fresh cod, haddock, scallops, and chips. If you're in search of British baubles, there's the adjoining small grocery shop, Carry On Tea & Sympathy. It's great for a quick fix of British sweets, biscuits, tea, and just about anything you can imagine with a union jack plastered on it. They even welcome suggestions of items for them to stock.
