Casa Mono/Bar Jamon
Tucked away in a little corner near Gramercy Park is Casa Mono and its sister restaurant Bar Jamon, the Spanish outpost of Mario Batali's sprawling empire. Here, traditional tapas are infused with modern touches, like the pictured Soft Egg with Romesco, a perfectly cooked soft boiled egg served with a chunky hazelnut romesco sauce and hearty toasted bread, a simple dish with a surprisingly complex flavors.
Other dishes that caught our eye are the paella croquettes with uni and baby tomatoes and oxtail stuffed piquillo peppers. Chances are you will have to wait for a table, so head next door to Bar Jamon where you can brush up on your ham knowledge and study their extensive list of Spanish wines, which is over 600 bottles deep.
