Birds & Bubbles
The fried chicken craze is still in full force. Pies & Thighs, Cheeky Sandwiches, Fuku, Root & Bone, and Blue Ribbon are just a few members of this movement and now, Birds and Bubbles is the latest to hop on the comfort food bandwagon. So in a sea of golden, crunchy flesh and juicy, finger lickin’ meat, how does this newbie stand out? Simple: fried chicken and champagne (hence the name), which cuts the richness of the fried bird. This more refined southern style dinner in the Lower East Side is a reflection of Executive Chef Sarah Simmons’ southern roots, who incorporates other eclectic flavors. Their cheeky menus (the buttermilk fried chicken falls under “Fowl Play” on their pun-filled dinner menu) have much more to offer though than their infamous chicken. The late night menu offers mouth watering options like creole crisps to dip in green chili queso ($11), a beet burger made of ground beet, oats, special sauce sandwiched between a toasted brioch ($14), and sides such as their crispy potato salad with shallot aioli, capers, and herbs ($9).
