The Life And Times Of A "Plus One," An Expose...

"I am just a simple guy that never thought his life would have changed a year ago. It went from a normal night of having dinner with friends to going out to parties as my partner's "plus one". Flashbulbs, camera crews and bold face names everywhere. This blog documents the world of the socials from the eyes of an outsider."

So starts Stephen Keefe's (SK) (David Gruning's* plus one) new blog, "Aspirations of a Social Climber." It's a deliciously candid look into the life of a plus one trying to make it in a world of socials in NYC...

So far there are only three posts, but we are expecting this to be a daily read. Here is some of my favorite lines:

#1 The KiptonART and SAKS celebration [Post HERE]:

"We walked up to the check-in table and once again I said those words that are getting easier to say with every event "I'm his plus one". We walked into the event which was already packed with supporters. Film crews were everywhere making a video for KiptonArt as well as following around the next reality superstar. I guess my next aspiration should be to have a reality show but then i said to myself "baby steps, baby steps". After about two minutes of being there our photo was taken. All I was thinking was I hope I did the right pose. Oh the stress of it all."

"This morning I woke up and ran to my computer. I wanted to see how the photos turned out and there it was. My name was misspelled. My heart was in my throat. All these questions starting running through my head. How am i going to be a social if they spell my name wrong? How can I get them to fix this? Will it always be like this? Is my life always going to be a plus one? One will never know but there is always another event that could change everything."

#2 DVD Release Party of Valentino:The Last Emperor at Boom Boom [Post HERE]

"Okay so here it is. My day started with an email letting me know that I was not a "plus one" for the DVD release party of VALENTINO: THE LAST EMPEROR at The Standard Hotel. I was crushed. I mean who would not want to be in the same room as Valentino, Madonna, Mark Jacobs, Diane von Furstenberg and Hugh Jackman to name a few.

Do I need to say more? When I first heard that I was going to be a "plus one" to this party, it was all I could think about. All weekend long I was thinking about how amazing it was going to be. On Monday, I started to think "What does one wear to a party like this?" I had to look perfect."

#3 Four Events in One Night:

"It started at an Alessi shopping event in Soho. A quick drive by to see what was new, see our friends from BDE and have a glass of champagne. Nothing makes shopping more enjoyable then a little bit of bubbly."

David Gruning is a successful fashion PR executive in NYC. He was present with us at the Valentino party on Tuesday night at boom boom, where we all were missing our own +1's.
