Beyond scrappy. They weren’t supposed to do well, but I’m thrilled that they are. If you heard the premise of Hamilton, you’d write it off. Founding fathers - but make it musical. Alexander Hamilton but make it hip hop….? Without headline grabber Zlatan Ibrahimovic, the Swedish team was hardly considered a threat. But they’ve managed to shock everyone and lead a group that includes Germany (2014 WC winners), Mexico, and South Korea. A totally unexpected success, the team has completely stunned bookmakers, fans, and pundits alike. In a competition as rife with corruption as the World Cup, it’s gratifying to see that sometimes the good guys do win.
