First came Steiner Studios, then came an expansion of the film production tax credit, now comes Ugly Betty. The AP reports that Ugly Betty will join the ranks of 30 Rock and Gossip Girl by bringing production to New York. No word on exactly when the shift will occur, but we do know filming will take place in Manhattan and Queens (alas, our beautiful Steiner Studios will go unutilized) and that production bring an estimated 200 jobs to our beloved city. What is better than keeping NY in the spotlight? I think, maybe, it’s stealing the spotlight from L.A. Although, after the NYSE bought out the Pacific Exchange, ending its separate identity, I suppose it would be nice to share.
