"Parks and Recreation"
Trailblazer: Amy Poehler (Leslie Knope)
If you've never seen "Parks and Recreation," think a single camera mockumentary-style show (much like "The Office"), but in the even-smaller town of Pawnee, Indiana, where the waffles are best at JJ's diner, and a mini-horse named Lil' Sebastian is worshiped by all Pawnee-ans. The show's leading lady, Amy Poehler, plays the hilarious and steadfast character of Leslie Knope, who is the lynchpin in the Parks and Recreation department and (spoiler alert) eventually becomes the city's mayor. Poehler has definitely blazed the trail, not only for women in television, but also women in government!
