Portsmouth, NH
If you're a history buff like us, you're going to love New Hampshire's Portsmouth, set on the border of NH and Maine on a small fragment of the Atlantic coastline. Brick paths, polished trees and 18th century colonial buildings line your path through history. The town is not touristy at all, which is a refreshing way to learn about the lifestyle of the 18th century without questioning authenticity. Head into the Strawberry Banke Museum, where costumed instructors will explain what life was like 300 years ago. Grab a bite to eat at the Black Trumpet Bistro, hosting an international menu that changes every month to utilize fresh ingredients. The restaurant is in a 19th century ship's chandlery, so you'll feel like you just took a step back in time (but with more more ingredients and culinary knowledge than that of the past).
