Along with nearly everyone else. we are having some difficulties resisting the beckon of Surf Lodge, distance be damned. Not only are there great food and innovative beverages served by an adorable Tracy Feithed staff, a gorgeous deck with comfy wicker lounges and an outdoor bar, paddleboards, and an astonishingly low-key, pretension-free vibe; there are also awesome free concerts put on by Snow Queen Vodka.

The SL goes for longstanding culty artists -Mike Doughty's played there, as has White Buffalo and the Crybabies, and this Sunday brings Rhett Miller and the Old 97's. Miller sounds like a sharpened, energetic version of early John Mayer mixed with a little Lou Reed and a lot of Ted Leo; some of his songs are supremely danceable, others perfect for languorous outdoor evenings. Check him out Sunday at 5, but don't plan on staying the night; word is the SL's booked every weekend this summer.
