The Medina
Nothing captures the essence of Marrakech like the souk within the old medina. During the day, snake charmers and pet monkey owners roam the famed Jemaa el-Fnaa square which serve as the entrance to the largest traditional Berber market in Morocco.
Once you enter the souk, it becomes somewhat of a labyrinth but forgo using a guide and wander into the markets yourself as guides will often take you to the stores where they get commission. Instead, ask for directions when you're lost and you'll find that Moroccans are incredibly helpful. The main thing to remember is that when it comes down to the price, everything is negotiable, so don't be too afraid to pick yourself up some leather goods or Moroccan spices!
