Weighing In...

studio Why do you feel Flywheel's stadium setting is more beneficial than the standard lines? Our stadium-style seating allows every rider to have a full view of the instructor during class – every seat is the best seat. It also means the instructor can see everyone in class from the instructor podium.  I find it makes it easier to follow the workout effectively and with proper form. So, do you find that more riders are intimidated by the screens in the class that rank the riders or do you find that riders like the screens in order to motivate them to work harder? For riders who want an extra competitive edge, opting in to be on the TorqBoard may motivate them to put forth a greater effort and push themselves harder than if their score (Total Power) wasn't on display for all to see. However, if you’re not feeling competitive – no problem!  This part is completely optional. What is different about using the weighted bars in Flywheel than say the normal hand held weights during a spin class? At Flywheel, riders continue to pedal during the arms sequence of class ensuring their heart rate stays in the fat burning zone.  The key to the upper body portion is high repetition with low weight.  The use of weighted bars is effective as it helps create a sense of equilibrium and balance while riders simultaneously pedal and work upper body sections like biceps, triceps and more.  Additionally, riders look forward to the break from the intense cardio portion of the class – shifting focus for a short period of time allows them to come back refreshed for the final minutes of the ride.
