Inspired By Her Aunt
Meena has been vocal about the life lessons her "Auntie" Kamala has instilled in her. "[She always urged] me to make my own unique contributions to issues I care about. Sure, she’s always encouraged me to run for office, but she never pressured me, and she also let me know that I could make an impact in other ways. And, of course none of us can do everything, but we all have the responsibility to do something. For me, what started as a pantsuit drive after the 2016 election has evolved into a digital startup, organizing social justice campaigns, and writing children’s books. And I’m just getting started,” she's said.
During Kamala Harris's successful 2016 campaign for the U.S. Senate, Meena served as a senior advisor on policy and communications, and from 2016 to 2017, Harris served as a commissioner on the San Francisco Commission on the Status of Women. Obviously, she's also been by her aunt's side during her bid for president and then as VP.
