Homes Are Falling Apart

And it's not just nails that aren't being manicured. Lawns are overgrown, gardens have gone neglected. Landscapers and gardeners are in such short supply that some desperate residents have even resorted to mowing the lawn themselves. "I had to take my $800 sneakers off first," bemoaned one East Hampton resident, before using a weed whacker for the first time.

Calls for plumbers, electricians, and house cleaners have gone unanswered. There's no one around to iron sheets.

Truly dark times.
