The Social Media Angle
Social media, in conjunction with high schoolers' physical inability to resist bragging about their crimes, are central to how this whole thing unfolded. We've uncovered the "disguised"
Twitter and Facebook accounts of Shaakir Joyce, the Pali High student
accused by the LAT of having organized the chaos and who has since changed his Facebook name to "Billy Hoyle" (a.k.a.
Woody Harrelson's character from White Men Can't Jump).
At our left is a photo "Billy" posted weeks in advance of his
Project X throwdown listing the party rules captioned,
"yeah... so basically... Project X." Please take note of rule #6 cautioning partiers against posting things on Facebook they don't want the world to see. Take it from "Billy," who learned this lesson when he had to take down the Facebook invite for the party with all the info just days in advance:
Billy Hoyle: Its tomorrow night! We had to delete the page haha too many fools were tryna come thru!
Well, "Billy," it looks like too many fools came through regardless.
And, as the comments on "Billy's" Facebook make clear, this party was destined to get out of control before it even started:
So totally uber-viral that a crowd of over 500 young hooligans amassed within minutes at the new party house. Cops reported to the scene of teenage spring breakers ready to rage house party-style (lots of Smirnoff Ice and weed) within 15 minutes of neighbors reporting their descent on the quiet residential street to begin the party shutdown process :(
