Melissa Brown, Palisades

Inspired by Palisades Interstate Park, and how its topography mirrors the New York skyline, artist Melissa Brown created "Palisades," a series of paintings capturing this urban and rural reflection.
By cataloguing geology and flora unique to the region, Brown is able to transform them into "totem-like characters, their weathered faces suggesting the area's ancient geologic past, while simultaneously underscoring the region's urbanized present."
Through March 31 at KANSAS.
Opening Reception Saturday, February 25, 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.
