This Ain't It Chief
Thankfully, the body positivity movement has grown momentum in recent years, with more and more fashion brands offering inclusive sizes and featuring a more diverse range of models in their campaigns. However, a subversive attempt to make a statement on the body-shaming so many people face was incredibly mishandled by influencer faves LPA and Revolve. Sweatshirts featuring insults thrown at celebrities and models like Lena Dunham, Cara Delevingne, and Suki Waterhouse were designed in order to "shock" people into awareness. But consumers were more shocked when they found that a quote reportedly directed at model Paloma Elsesser ("Being fat is not beautiful it's an excuse") was being marketed on a thin, white model on Revolve's website. Technically, outraged voices stopped the shirt from becoming an Instagram #fail before someone could buy it.
