Allen has worked several jobs in the entertainment industry, starting out as a joke writer for comic Herb Shriner, and a scriptwriter for
The Ed Sullivan Show and
The Tonight Show. He then went on to try his hand at stand-up comedy, and even released three albums of live comedy skits.
As an actor, he appeared in films such as
Casino Royale and on the television show
Hot Dogs. As a director, he has nearly 50 films to his credit, including
Sleeper, Annie Hall, Manhattan, and
Midnight in Paris.
